Develop Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists (Physios) work with people to access their participation in everyday activities through an understanding of how people use their bodies and how movement affects doing things.
Physios:
- Bring a range of therapeutic approaches to support their interventions that may include developing strength, managing pain, stretching, developing positioning and transfer plans, and facilitating the development of gross motor skills.
- Offer a range of therapy options including individual and small group programs, land and hydrotherapy pool-based therapy for skill development.
- Support people by trialing and prescribing equipment to support postural control and mobility such as wheelchairs, walkers, and lifters.
Joint therapy appointments with therapists of other disciplines may be offered.
Orthopaedic and musculoskeletal support includes:
- Management of toe walking, including for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Scoliosis management
- Talipes
- Tortocollis
- Lower limb casting
- Pain management in children
Developmental supports and gross motor development including:
- Mobility equipment prescription, including wheel chairs, walkers, standing frames
- Specialised seating equipment
- Positioning for function
- Bike assessment and prescription
- Skills for playground and school yard participation
- Participation in sports and group games
- Swimming and pool activities
- Specific gross motor skill development
- Assessment and management of complex neurological conditions
- Respiratory physiotherapy including chest physiotherapy
- Advice for parents and carers on safe handling/transfers.
